30 Days of Lists - September 2013

Friday, August 30, 2013

So it's almost time for September's #30Lists!! It's a fun way to capture the 'right now' of your life. How fun will it be to look back on this in 5 years? You can make your lists as simple or as complex as you want - use a small journal you already own, make your own mini book, or grab a daybook and get documenting! Are you in? It's not too late to join!

Last March, I used a Smashbook to record my lists. This time I decided to make my own minibook using the new Glitz 'Wild and Free' paper collection. You know those gold Thickers had to be part of the title. I used Heidi Swapp ColorShine on the cork arrow to make it gold. I love how it turned out!

Here is the inside cover (the back inside cover matches) and first page:

I used my Bind-It-All and a 6x6 paper pad to make the album.

These papers are already double sided and the scale of the pattern is perfect for a small book.

I used the coordinating sticker and alpha sheets to embellish some of the pages:

I left plenty of room for journaling on all the pages

On some of the busier patterns, I will be adding a small card to the middle of the page for journaling.

You'll still be able to see a wide border of the patterned paper around the outside. I may use project life cards, but I'm not sure yet...

I still have lots of coordinating stickers that I'll be adding to my finished lists.

Hope you consider joining the #30lists challenge!!

Project Life 2013 - Week 32

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

I challenged myself to use Design D in my Project Life this week - I know it's not a huge challenge for most people, but I don't usually use this design. I generally print my vertical pictures 3x4. I've got some cute horizontal 4x3 cards that have been gathering dust though. Time to use them! I'm still on a Kraft kick, so I used lots of cards and colors inspired by that kit.

Full spread: camping, my mother-in-law sent me new succulents, Joe and I went on 3 walks this week, we lost the Powerball jackpot, I got my nails done, and we tried a new coffee.

Left Side:

Joe unexpectedly had to change his brake pads while we were camping, so I added a little puffy rain cloud. I got a marker (called a Slick Writer) to write on photos, so I tried it out. It's great - no smudges!

I peeled part of the label off the new coffee bag - it was the perfect size for a 3x4 card. A small piece of washi keeps it adhered to the card.

Right side:

I used several pieces of a thin washi tape to make a background for this picture, then used a second washi to make a mat for it.

I added some Studio Calico cork stickers to these 3x4 cards to make them stand out. I can't get enough of these stickers!

I'll be linking up to The Mom Creative for Project Life Tuesday!!

Home is Wherever I am with You Travel Scrapbook Page

Monday, August 26, 2013

I have something different to show you today - a 12x12 page about travel. I'm pretty sure this is the first 12x12 I've posted on my blog. It's not a size I work with often, but I'm inspired to make some now!

One of the classes Mom and I took was called "Latest and Greatest with Basic Gray" by the embellish IT! company. We were given 4 example pages and given the freedom to do whatever we wanted with our own pages! This page uses Basic Gray's "Carte Postale" paper collection.

I used the example as my starting point, but only wanted to use one 4x4 Instagram photo instead of two 4x6 photos. I started my page at the class, but only got the bottom tickets glued down and the round part in the center made. When I got home, I added my photo, journaling card, alphas, and embellishments.

I'm still loving these cork stickers from Studio Calico.

I used a combination of Thickers, October Afternoon alphas, and Tim Holtz phrase stickers to make my title. There was no "am" in the phrase pack, so I just cut it from another word (dream).

This little strip of doilies is from Crate Paper's The Pier, and the Studio Calico cork stickers made another appearance:

I picked a few concentric circles and bits from the chipboard stickers.

Project Life 2013 - Week 31

Friday, August 23, 2013

So Week 31 of Project Life has lots of journaling - much more than I usually do. I actually changed up my process this week. I've always started by printing photos, then filling in the empty spots with journaling, quotes, and filler cards. This week I started with the journaling - I want to make sure all of my stories are told - and then I added the pics and embellishments. I love how it turned out!

Full spread:

Left side: current favorite song, walking, a relaxing night in, silly selfie, and a housewarming party.

I made a cute filler card with little phrase stickers.

I used the journaling spot on a title card and added a small pic to the side:

I journaled about a relaxing night at home.

Right side: bowling with the family, current television, wireless headset at work, fajitas at Casa Mexicana, Mom's new iPhone, plants.

This week I was motivated to play around with placing 4x6s in spots where there isn't actually a 4x6 slot. I want to give my pages a different look than what the pockets dictate. Sometimes I forget that I can make cards go across more than one pocket.

I've also been playing around with printing my pictures smaller than 3x4 and putting them on 3x4 cards to get a little more color on the page.

CKC Charlotte

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

I'm back from an unintentional week-long blog vacation. There's been so much going on that I haven't had a chance to post. I'm back on track now. :)

Mom and I went to the CKC show in Charlotte last weekend and had so much fun! It was our first time going to Charlotte, and I can't wait to bring Joe back. He will love it! Mom and I went to 3 classes. I'll be showing projects from those classes in future posts.

This is the first sign we saw as we were walking into the convention center:

A nice lady offered to take our picture in front of another sign!

I won a doorprize in one of our classes.

The Hilton Charlotte was the perfect location for us. It was right beside the convention center and within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Our view from the 18th floor:

Super cool name tag ;)

Fantastic fresh guacamole at Vida Cantina. We sat outside and had an amazing time people watching!

Fantastic enchiladas (and a blood orange margarita - yum!)

Our hotel as we were walking back after dinner:

Complicated elevator options:

Did you go to a CKC show this year? I can't wait till next year!

Project Life SMASH book August 2012

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

These pages are from my pretty pink SMASHbook that I used as a Project Life album last year. August 2012 was a busy month. We went to a huge outdoor Flea Market that happens every Labor Day, went to the Appalachian Fair, went to Gatlinburg for a weekend, and went to Mumford and Son's Gentlemen of the Road stopover here in Bristol. I kept a breakfast token from the hotel in Gatlinburg and entry tickets from the flea market. The 3x4 ferris wheel journaling card on the bottom right hand corner is adhered on one side with washi tape. It opens up to reveal our Fair tickets.

Left page: I used a cookie sleeve from our trip to Roanoke to make a pocket for lots of memorabilia - see the next picture for more details. I had too many pictures and too much stuff for just one page!

Right page: We went to the race at Bristol Motor Speedway, so I saved our race tickets, parking pass (free parking since I drive a Toyota!), pic of us wearing our race headsets, and some journaling. I cut out part of the racetrack brochure so I would have a map of the track and seating sections.

I saved brochures from an antique mall and a salvage yard to put in the pocket. I used scrapbook paper to make inserts for the pocket. I included a comment card from the restaurant and pictures from our trip. Each insert has stuff on the back too.
